About me

New to running?

If you are ready to lace up and go out for your first run…you’re in the right place! I specialize in helping beginners build a strong foundation with totally personalized training plans. We’ll focus on consistency, confidence, and fun—plus mobility and injury prevention—so you can begin to enjoy running without any setbacks. Whether your goal is to finish your first 5K or simply feel good moving your body, let’s get started!

Ultra curious?

Dreaming of running farther than most people want to drive? I’ve run many ultramarathons and know what it takes to train hard, fuel wisely, and stay mentally tough when the miles start to add up. Whether you're eyeing your first 50K or chasing a 100-mile PR, I’ll help you prepare for the challenge—and have fun throughout the entire process.

Love to lift?

You don’t have to be a runner to work with me. I offer personal training for lifters of all experience levels—whether you're stepping into a gym for the first time or looking to break through a plateau. Together we’ll build strength and confidence with smart, personalized programming.

Looking to BQ?

Boston keeps raising the bar—but with the right plan, you can rise to meet it. I’ll help you structure a personalized training cycle, target key workouts, and dial in your race strategy so you can shave seconds (or minutes) off your time and take a confident shot at that elusive BQ.

The JB Philosophy

Training Should Be Fun

Running and strength training should, first and foremost, bring you joy. Every workout should leave you feeling energized, accomplished, and more connected to your body. That might be a quiet trail run with a beautiful view or a sweaty gym session that leaves you feeling powerful. When training feels good, progress follows—and we’ll make sure it stays that way.

Train With Purpose

Every workout has a reason behind it. I use the proven VDOT system—grounded in Jack Daniels’ research—to guide training intensity, structure, and progression. Whether you’re running your first mile or chasing a BQ, your plan will be intentional, personalized, and built around your goals.

Strength Is for Everyone

Strength training is one of the best things you can do for your body—whether you run or not. It supports bone health, joint function, injury prevention, and everyday confidence. I also emphasize mobility to help you feel better, move better, and train smarter—at any age or experience level.

Build for the Long Term

Real, lasting progress takes time. I coach with both short-term milestones and long-term sustainability in mind. Whether you're training for your next race or building lifelong strength, we’ll focus on consistency, recovery, and smart progression so you can move well for years to come.

Dream Big

Want to BQ? Go sub-4? Hit a new squat PR? You’re capable of more than you think. Big goals are exciting—and totally within reach with the right plan. I’ll help you stay focused, motivated, and supported through every phase of your training cycle so you’re ready to rise to the challenge.

Results Come From Consistency

Progress isn’t always flashy or immediate—but showing up consistently is what builds strength, confidence, and results that stick. My ultramarathon experience taught me that grit, adaptability, and patience matter more than perfection. Whether or not you run ultras, that mindset shapes everything I coach: trust the process, do the work, and stay the course. Results will come.

About me

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m new to running. Aren’t coaches for more experienced runners?

Not at all! Coaching is actually super helpful when you’re just getting started—it gives you structure, keeps you motivated, and helps you avoid injury. I work with beginners all the time and love helping people fall in love with running.

Is your coaching online or in person?

All coaching is online, so you can train wherever you are! You'll get personalized plans, regular check-ins, and support through virtual check-ins, email, or messages. It’s flexible, easy to follow, and built around your life.

Do you coach road runners or trail runners?

Both! Whether you’re training for a road race or want to get stronger on the trails, I can help. The training will be tailored to your goals, terrain, and experience.

I already run… do I really need to weight train as well?

Honestly? Yes. Strength training helps you run stronger, faster, and with less risk of injury. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym—just a few focused sessions a week can make a big difference.

What kind of equipment do I need to start weight training?

You can start with just your bodyweight! But having a pair of dumbbells, resistance bands, or a kettlebell is great if you’ve got them. I’ll design your program based on whatever you have access to—even if that’s just a yoga mat and some floor space.

I’m not a runner. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely. I offer personal training for anyone—whether you're just getting started with strength training or looking to improve technique and build muscle safely. We’ll focus on strength, mobility, and progress you can see and feel.

How personalized is the training plan?

Completely personalized. Your plan is built around your current fitness, your goals, your schedule, and your preferences. I don’t use templates—I create each plan from scratch to make sure it fits your life and keeps you progressing.

Do I need to be training for a race or competition to work with you?

Not at all! I work with runners and lifters training for races, events, or just to feel better and get stronger. Whether your goal is a race, a PR, or simply moving consistently, I’m here for it.

Can I work with you if I’m recovering from an injury or coming back from time off?

Yes, absolutely. I take a careful, supportive approach to training during recovery and return-to-movement phases. We’ll focus on mobility, strength, and progress at a pace that keeps you safe and confident.

What if I’m not motivated or I fall off track?

That’s part of the process—and it’s okay. I’m here to help you reset and keep going. One of the biggest benefits of coaching is having someone in your corner when motivation dips. We’ll make adjustments and find what keeps you moving forward.

Do you offer nutrition coaching or meal plans?

I don’t provide detailed meal plans, but I do offer general guidance around fueling for performance, recovery, and everyday energy. If you need in-depth support, I’m happy to refer you to a trusted registered dietitian.
